With the onset of technology and the empowering benefits that technology provides to people with a range of disabilities, I have been focused on engaging in this technology using a range of Software applications. I apply, adapt and create technological solutions to improve the lives and learning of people with disabilities. It is a very exciting field to be in.
A mother phoned me after her child, who has a severe intellectual disability, bought home her iPad from school, and said
""This is the first time my daughter has taught me things. I know I can rely on her to teach me how to use the iPad."" We both promptly burst into tears. These moving experiences are now commonplace as students engage in technology, with Google providing the latest window of opportunity.
I also run workshops, train staff and students, personalise devices, demonstrate curriculum adjusted ideas on working with students with a range of disabilities. First and foremost, we have fun and learn at the same time, creating new opportunities.
